20 Northwest DC Neigborhoods

Northwest DC neighborhoods are found north of the National Mall & west of North Capitol Street, in the northwest quadrant. It is the largest of the four quadrants in the District. The Northwest DC neighborhood represents a tad more than 42% of the city. Packed within its borders are desirable neighborhoods such as:

1 Northeast DC Neigborhood

Northeast DC neighborhoods are located in the Northeast Quadrant, north of East Capitol Street and east of North Capitol Street. Northeast is home to Gallaudet University, The Catholic University of America and Trinity Washington University, as well as Mount St. Sepulchre Franciscan Monastery, the Atlas Performing Arts Center, United States National Arboretum and Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens. A section of the Northeast Quadrant has recently been dubbed ‘Near Northeast.’ The area is bordered by North Capitol Street to the west, Florida Avenue to the north, F Street to the south, and 15th Street to the east. Northeast and Near Northeast neighborhoods include:

2 Southwest DC Neigborhoods

Southwest DC neighborhoods are sited within the Southwest Quadrant, which spans the area south of south of the National Mall and west of South Capitol Street. About half of the quadrant is located south of the Anacostia River. Southwest is the smallest quadrant in the District and, due to its size, often considered a neighborhood rather than a quadrant, but it is made up of five Southwest DC neighborhoods; The Southwest Waterfront, Southwest Federal Center, Bellevue, Buzzard’s Point and Anacostia.

1 Southeast DC Neigborhoods

Southeast DC neighborhoods are located in the Southeast Quadrant, south of East Capitol Street and east of South Capitol Street. Southeast DC neighborhoods include Capitol Hill, Eastern Market, Lincoln Park, Stanton Park, Hill East, which encompasses Barney Circle, Congressional Cemetery, and Stadium Armory micro-neighborhoods, Barracks Row, the Navy Yard and Yards Park, the Anacostia River waterfront and Hillcrest. The RFK Stadium and Nationals Park are located in Southeast. The quadrant is divided by the Anacostia River and the portion to its west may be referred to as “Near Southeast.” The portion to the river’s east is dubbed “River East”. Anacostia is the area along Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.
